Old Saint Mary Cemetery, Scituate, MA --- Detailed view of the North side of the Patrick Murphy family monument which bears the inscription: JOHN MURPHY Born in Waterford Ire. 1812-1897 --- Member of 28th Mass. Vols. Note the American flag on the left side of the photo. The flag is attached to a medallion that reads G.A.R. 1861-1865. This is a reference to the Grand Army of the Republic and indicates that John Murphy Jr. was a member of the Union Army during the Civil War. John Murphy Jr. was Patrick Murphy's brother.[Photo credit: Donna Goldstein]
