Life in Ireland
Timothy Cashman was baptized in 1831 in Donoughmore Roman Catholic Parish in County Cork, Ireland.
Voyage to America
In 1853, Timothy Cashman emigrated from Ireland accompanied by his niece, Johanna Cashman.
Building a New Life
In 1855, Timothy was living in the household of his older brother, James Cashman, in the town of South Scituate.
In early 1857, Timothy Cashman was living in South Scituate and working as a laborer. When Timothy died in July 1857, he was owed two months of back pay ($31.00) from Edward Jacobs. It is not clear what tasks Timothy performed for Mr. Jacobs, but whatever it was, he was paid $15.50 a month.
Death
Timothy Cashman died prematurely at age 26 in South Scituate on July 6, 1857. The cause of death was listed as "fits" which today would be described as seizures. These seizures may have been caused by epilepsy, meningitis, or encephalitis.
He is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Rockland, Massachusetts, in the large Cashman family plot which is marked by a handsome granite memorial stone. He is buried with his brother James, sister-in-law Catherine and four of his nieces and nephews.
At the time of his death, Timothy Cashman did not own any property but he did own personal estate valued at $252.19. This personal estate was composed of clothing, two months back wages, a promissory note from Edward Jacobs and one share of Bunker Hill Loan Fund valued at $92.82.
