    Notes
    • In 1910, David is a watchman in a quarry. Could this have been the Cashman quarry?

In the 1920 census, David is manager and his father and brother both work in the shipyard as a chipping gun operator and electrician respectively. Is it odd that David has a middle class job, while his father and brother both have blue color jobs?

David was married for the first time at age 43. At that time he was still living in his parents' home at 12 Thayer Street, Quincy. His bride, Ethel Priscilla Potter, was 50. It was her first marriage also. They were married on 5 Jun 1926. Priscilla was born in Norway, Maine of James B. Potter and Clara P. Merrill. After the wedding, David moved into Priscilla's residence on South Russell Street in Boston.

WHITE, DAVID JOSEPH, Quincy, Mass. (Age 37, b. Quincy, Mass.) Educated in the public schools of Quincy and evening class in mechanical engineering at the Boston Y.M.C.A. From 1901 to 1904 , draftsman and foreman, Quincy Quarries Co.; 1904 to 1909 , general foreman and inspector with Ryan-Parker Construction Co., Stonington, Me., during the construction of Riverside Drive, New York, and steel and masonry piers for Manhattan Bridge, New York; 1910, in charge of cofferdam work for sea-wall of Ayer Mill in Merrimack River at Lawrence, Mass.; 1911, estimator with Cashman & Sons Co., Quincy, Mass., during the construction of Sandy Bay Breakwater and various railroad and bridge contracts; and since 1911, with the Bay State Dredging & Contracting Co., and acting as general manager of that company. - from JOURNAL of the BOSTON SOCIETY of CIVIL ENGINEERS. Vol. 7. No. 10. December, 1920. APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP. [December 15, 1920]
    • (Research):Al Pace wrote, "I want to address your questions about David J. White. He seems to have been a prominent engineer and businessman, president and owner of the Bay State Dredging Co. for 35 yrs., a personal friend of Cardinal Cushing. During WWII, he served on the US Maritime Commission. He was Chairman of the Board of the Engineers Club of Boston and an official of the River and Harbor Contractors Association. I am extremely proud to be a collateral relative of his. I am still not absolutely certain of this, but it seems quite likely given my (and my closest relative's DNA matches) close DNA match with Joan McKeon. I would like to obtain John White, Sr.'s death certificate in order to ascertain that his mother's name was Ellen Ryan, who, according to my sources was the wife of my great-grandfather, Patrick White, of Garrettstown, Cork, Ireland. I think I have David's obituary in my files. E-mail a possibility. Mine is: alcpace@comcast.net."
