The letter was published in the Annual Report of the United States Life Saving Service for the fiscal year ending 30 Jun 1902. The letter pays tribute to the bravery of the men of the North Scituate Life Saving Station who rescued five men from the surf on Friday, September 6, 1901. The letter praised Station Keeper Brown and the men of his crew, namely, John E. Murphy, Jeremiah McCarthy, John Curran, Richard W. Tobin, James Curran and Thomas P. Stanley.
